An atheist shopper ‘found God’ during a trip to Ikea – after he spotted the face of Jesus on one of the store’s toilet doors.
Alastair Cantley, 23, saw the bearded figure at the Ikea store in Glasgow during a shopping trip on Sunday.
He claims the image on the door definitely shows Jesus, while his friends say it looks more like Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister or David Bowie.
Mr Cantley, from Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, said he did a double take when he walked past the image visible in the grain of the wood – which is complete with perfectly symmetrical eyes, a nose, and moustache.
He said: ‘I’m not a believer. I’m not religious at all. But I couldn’t ignore that it looked so much like Jesus.
‘I actually stared at it and walked past it, through the door, and then went back out just to make sure I wasn’t going mad.
‘Whatever effect there was on the wood had created this face and I just thought it was the spitting image of Jesus. I couldn’t walk pass without taking a picture.’
Some of his friends have suggested that the face looks like a cross between the late music stars David Bowie and Lemmy, rather than Jesus.
However, Mr Cantley did not let the revelation distract him too long though, and ended up buying a rug and some candles.
He said: ‘It was a fairly normal shopping trip until I saw that. It’s not every day you spot Jesus in Ikea.
‘The door handle was in the way a bit but I think for anyone walking past they can clearly see the face there.
‘I’ll have to call in again soon and see if he’s still there. Maybe he’s watching over me.’
